End of Term Activities

03/04/2009

The last week of term has been a flurry of activity.

The ski trip is taking place in New Hampshire and the CCF contingent has already departed for its camps in England.

The A2 Drama practical examinations took place in Drama Room 1 on Wednesday 2 April with three productions; two were based on Frank McGuiness's great play, Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme; the third was Steven Berkoff's play, Metamorphosis, based on Kafka's novel. The productions were distinguished by intense and committed physicality, vocal dexterity and disciplined ensemble work. This was a great evening of theatre, quite regardless of the fact that it was an examination.

The Upper Sixth Formal was held in the Clandeboye Lodge Hotel on Thursday night, 2 April. 200 boys and partners were joined by nearly thirty members of staff and all danced until 1.00am to the great music of the Big Band Connection.

Term ended on Friday 4 April with our traditional non-denominational Easter service in Hamilton Road Presbyterian Church. Introduced by Gareth McClean of Stormont Presbyterian Church, it included video, drama and music led by the Rend Collective Experience. Alex Polkey of Year 10 read from John's Gospel and the prayers were led by Daniel Lewis of Year 13, Richard Hunter of Year 10 and Miss Evans. The boys finally emerged into the beautiful Spring sunshine after the Celtic Blessing delivered by the Headmaster.

Thanks to Mr Cairnduff and Mr Rea, who led and organised the event.
