Scripture Union
Year 8 Scripture Union
Again, it is important to emphasise that the strength of BGS Scripture Union lies in the fact that at its centre is the ethos of the small (and sometimes not-so-small) Year Group meeting. Although we also have occasional joint meetings with Glenlola, the odd senior school meeting, lunchtime grill-a-Christian panellists, special invited speakers to address groups and much more, the Year meetings tend to cement peer groups in their fellowship, identity and shared goals.Last year Mrs Matchett, now much missed to SU and indeed by the school as a whole, led the above mentioned group and was unstinting in her vision and industry. Many profitable Bible studies were undertaken, not least on the subject of Daniel, prayer, Bible study and much more. We wish her every blessing in her career in Royal Belfast Academical Institution.
Wednesday lunchtimes in Room 143 were always buzzing with the enthusiasm of those who attended. We are also indebted to many Year 14 pupils who helped out with the small group work and of course the frequent quizzes and games, not least last year’s Head Boy, Mark Bowers, together with Craig Donaldson, Ryan Craig and others. This was no insignificant sacrifice of their free time, when not on duty, during their leisure periods.
As to the actual punters themselves, many regarded Wednesday afternoons as veritable havens of peace in a frenetic schedule when they could meet with and chat to others of like mind and learn more about the Bible or grow in their faith. Some asked us if it would be possible to meet every lunchtime and not just on Wednesdays. Well, no points for guessing the answer to that one…
