Department Staff
The Mathematics Department is staffed by eight mathematics teachers, all of whom have the opportunity to teach all ages and all levels of ability. It is the aim of the department to help each young person in the school reach their full potential in Mathematics and to make the whole experience enjoyable and satisfying.

Subject Curriculum
Years 8 – 12 (Key Stages 3 & 4)
- Mathematics is taught in mixed-ability form-groups during Years 8-10. The N. I. Curriculum is followed for these years.
- Starting in Year 11, Pupils have the choice of taking Additional Mathematics for GCSE as well as the mandatory GCSE Mathematics.
- There are approximately two Additional Mathematics groups and six / seven ‘Non Additional’ groups at GCSE. The ‘Non-Additional’ groups are mixed ability classes.
- Key Stage 4 pupils sit the CCEA Modular Mathematics course
Years 13-14 (AS and A2)
- In the Sixth Form we usually run three teaching sets.
- We have a strong Further Mathematics group each year who sit A2 Mathematics in Year 13 and Further Mathematics in Year 14.
- Pupils who are not sitting Further Mathematics, sit AS Level Mathematics in Year 13 and most would continue to A2 level in Year 14.
- Examination results are excellent.
- AS, A2 and Further Mathematics pupils sit CCEA Mathematics examinations.
Additional Activities
During Years 12, 13, 14 it is the department’s policy to encourage the pupils to challenge themselves by entering U.K. and European competitions. The UK Mathematics Olympiad and the ‘Mathématiques Sans Frontières’, are two such events that we regularly participate in.
