English
As a department we embrace ICT and Key Skills. We teach enthusiastically in order to promote enthusiasm for our subject in our students. As well as equipping our pupils with relevant knowledge, understanding and skills we take very seriously our responsibility to develop our students as individuals, as contributors to society and as contributors to the economy and the environment. Our pupils are regular and successful entrants in literary competitions. Private reading is strongly encouraged. Poetry and Talking & Listening are assessed as a component in our summer examinations.Department Staff

Subject Curriculum
Key Stage 3
At Key Stage 3 we study the subject primarily through literary texts that include a Shakespeare play, a nineteenth century novel and a prose work from another culture. Texts are explored analytically in preparation for Key Stage 3 and Advanced Level examinations and as stimuli for creative and imaginative work.
GCSE and A'Level
All of our students take C.E.A. examinations in English and English Literature at G.C.S.E. and a large number go on to study C.E.A. English Literature at Advanced Subsidiary and A2 Levels. Grades achieved in Public Examinations are consistently impressive. Many of our students opt to study English or related subjects at university.
Notable Achievements
September 2006
A group of boys from the school took part in the 'Young Aspects Poetry Reading' Festival in Bangor during September. The boys read their own poetry compositions during the festival.

December 2006
Charlie Scott from Year 8 finished second in the Bookshop at Queens Poetry Competition. The theme was ‘Winter Days’. The poems of six other junior pupils were highly commended.
Well done to our successful students.
