Library & Information Centre

"At the moment we persuade a child to cross that threshold into a library, we change their lives forever, for the better. It’s an enormous force for good.” Barack Obama

The library is a valuable, lively resource centre for all pupils and staff. It provides study and research facilities in various formats. It currently holds over 6000 books as well as a variety of magazines, newspapers, DVD’s and videos and includes a selection of non-book research material such as our newspaper cuttings file and government agency reports.   There are 26 internet linked computers running Windows XP and a huge array of software, both cross-curricular, and subject specific. We offer colour printing facilities, black and white photocopying as well as binding and lamination services.

Well-developed information skills contribute directly to pupils' capacity to manage their work, and to the quality of that work. The ability to select information that is appropriate in content, quantity and level is crucial. Through our information skills programme we aim to teach pupils to handle information confidently so that they may become independent, self-motivated and effective lifelong learners.

“To those with ears to hear, libraries are really very noisy places. On their shelves we hear the captured voices of the centuries-old conversation that makes up our civilization.” Timothy Healy

Recreational reading is encouraged in the library and the junior reading group is well supported. The library also has had visits from authors such as Alan Gibbons and Robert Muchamore. National and international events like Children’s Book Week and World Book Day are part of the annual calendar.

The library is staffed by a full time qualified librarian Mrs Ann Cowdrey along with volunteer library student Mr Jonathan Christie.
