Year 9 is the first year of learning German. We are using the New text book “Na Klar!” and in Years 9 and 10 we cover topics Such as greetings, talking about yourself, family, pets, where you Live etc.

By the end of Key Stage 3 boys should be able to order meals, buy items in shops, discuss hobbies, families and school, amongst other things, with some degree of confidence.

G.C.S.E.

In Modern Languages we use AQA, an English examining Board. The boys are prepared for exams in the four language Skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing, which are Equally weighted.

Topics studied include:- family, holidays, school, leisure activities, Health and fitness, environment, world of work and social issues which affect young people.

‘A’ Level

Again we use AQA. ‘AS’ and ‘A2’ exams consist of 6 modules in total over the two year period. Pupils must be able to converse knowledgeably on subjects such as Health, Social issues, Family, Employment, Environment, Leisure and current issues in Germany – political and social. Listening and writing skills are
Also extensively examined along with a coursework element.

School Trip to the Rheinland

This an annual trip to the area around Bonn, Koblenz and Cologne. We visit the Beethovenhaus in Bonn, as Well as the Nurburgring race track, a restored castle on The River Mosel at Cochem and Phantasialand theme park near Bonn. We also enjoy a cruise down the Rhine on one of the KD fleet of boats.

The boys have the opportunity to “try out” their German on the unsuspecting locals as well as sampling German lifestyle, culture and food – especially the local icecream in the many icecream parlours in Boppard, where we stay!!
