Pastoral System
When a boy joins the school, he is allocated to a form class and to one of four Houses - Crosby, Dufferin, School or Ward.
There are three groups of staff who have special responsibility for providing pastoral care.
Form Teachers
They meet with their form class to take a daily roll call and to teach the Learning for Life and Work programme.
Heads of Year
They support the work of the Form Teachers and have an oversight of the well-being and academic progress of the boys in each year group. Any concerns about academic progress and pastoral issues should normally be brought to the Head of Year.
Senior Teachers
Three Senior Teachers, Mr Joe Wilson (Sixth Form), Mr Stephen Robinson (Middle School) and Mr Alan Mackie (Junior School), oversee the work of pastoral care.
The Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, Dr Carrie Mills, liaises with subject teachers, Heads of Year and external bodies to ensure, where possible, that the academic requirements of any boy with special needs are met.
The Pastoral Vice-Principal, Mrs Elizabeth Huddleson, co-ordinates the provision of pastoral care throughout the school.
There is the expectation of high standards of personal behaviour. All boys are given guidelines in the form of a code of conduct and school rules which form the basis for the administration of discipline throughout the school. Parents with concerns about child protection issues should raise them with either the Headmaster or the designated teacher for child protection, Mr. M. Christy, or his deputy, Mrs. E. Huddleson.
