The Art Department at Bangor Grammar School aims to provide pupils with the above in a structured, safe, stimulating and creative environment. We stress the importance of using a wide variety of processes, techniques, mediums and materials which allow pupils to develop a wide range of skills. We aim to encourage an enthusiasm for Art and Design in Key Stage 3 regardless of ability as well as providing a solid base of skills for those pupils wishing to continue their study of the subject to G.C.S.E. and beyond.

The Art Department believes strongly in the value of observational drawing, encouraging cooperation and mutual respect through group work and providing pupils with opportunities to explore new materials and processes.

In the Art Department we always encourage pupils to achieve their personal best and take pride in their work. We are extremely proud of our results and have maintained 100% A*-C grades at G.C.S.E. and A level and are well above the national average for a boys school. Work is selected on a regular basis for CCEA’s “True Colours” exhibition – a showcase for the best of G.C.S.E. and A level.

The Art Department believes itself to have a fair, flexible, firm and fun approach to the teaching of Art and Design and strives to be an effective and important part of the community that is Bangor Grammar School.
